Access
to Markets
At
the hub of the U.S. and Canadian industrial centers and within a 100-mile
radius to Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Buffalo, the Port of Erie offers fast,
efficient and cost-effective service to major U.S. and Canadian markets.
The Port of Erie lies within 500 miles of 85 million people.

Transportation
One north-south (I-79) and two east-west (I-90 and I-80) interstates directly
link northwest Pennsylvania with all major markets in the Midwest, East
Coast and southeast United States. The province of Ontario, the center of
Canadian business and finance, is two hours by I-90 via Buffalo.
The region is also connected to the East Coast via the Southern Tier
Expressway, a four-lane, limited-access highway that extends from Erie
directly to New York City.
The region is served by several railroads offering freight service including
Conrail, Norfolk and Western, and Bessemer and Lake Erie. Local short haul
lines serve manufacturers in Corry, Meadville and Union City.
Air passenger and cargo service is available at the commercial airports in
Erie and Franklin. Major international airports in Cleveland and
Pittsburgh are less than two hours by car/truck from northwest
Pennsylvania.
Manufacturers can use the Port of Erie to move bulk goods in the Great Lakes network and
through the St. Lawrence Seaway to and from European markets. The
Erie Port Authority recently received Foreign Trade Zone designation from
the federal government and has put three FTZ sub zones in place.
